Querido lector,Me llamo Qais Akbar Omar. Soy afgano, musulmán, tejedor de alfombras, periodista, ayudante de dirección, boxeador y Qais, el Cruel Cortador de Cometas. También soy el autor de este libro. Escribí El fuerte de las nueve torres por muchas razones.En parte, intentaba conjurar los demonios que acechaban missueños. En parte, era una forma de retener a seres queridos que había perdido. Y en parte, quería contarle a la gente cosas acerca de Afganistán que ellos no sabían.Las palabras son como los nudos de una alfombra. Una conecta con la siguiente hasta que entre varias forman un pensamiento, lo mismo que los nudos crean un dibujo. Quería explicar cómo alguien como yo se convierte en adulto, yendo a la escuela cuando estaba abierta y descubriendo por mi cuenta lo que necesitaba para sobrevivir; que supieran que heredé de mi abuelo el amor por la lectura, que con mis primos nómadas aprendí a reverenciar la belleza de la naturaleza, y que con la guía de una mujer muda descubrí el arte de tejer alfombras que se ha convertido en el trabajo de mi vida.Ahora que ya está escrita, siento que esta alfombra de palabras no me pertenece realmente a mí, sino a mi familia, que está haciéndose un hueco en el mundo, lidiando con sus recuerdos de lo que hemos sufrido como familia y de cómo hemos sobrevivido.Ahora te la ofrezco a ti, la alfombra más compleja y difícil que jamás hetejido: El fuerte de las nueve torres. Con todo respeto,Qais Akbar Omar
